Happy Saka Dawa 2013!

Buddha_Shakyamuni2

Saka Dawa commemorates Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana, or death. Perhaps the best way to celebrate is to practice! Prayers, spiritual practices and virtuous actions done on this sacred day are automatically multiplied many fold.

The Four Faults of Natural Awareness

Kalu Rinpoche

So close you can’t see it.
So deep you can’t fathom it.
So simple you can’t believe it.
So good you can’t accept it.

All these teachings are offered to you like a flower-covered meadow offered to the bees. Everything is now in your hands. You have everything you need to practice and to achieve enlightenment. Do not waste even a day.

Chasing our Tails

Mingyur Rinpoche

Samsara refers to the wheel or circle of unhappiness, a habit of running around in circles, chasing after the same experience again and again, each time expecting a different result. If you’ve ever watched a dog or a cat chasing its own tail, you’ve seen the essence of samsara. And even though it might be funny to watch an animal chase its tail, it’s not so funny when your own mind does the same thing.

Sunday Morning Program – 5/5/13

We will be holding our weekly meditation and study program this Sunday. In addition to sitting meditation, we will continue our discussion of Mingyur Rinpoche’s The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness. The Joy of Living presents fundamental Buddhist concepts that are relevant to beginners and experienced Dharma practitioners alike. It is highly engaging, and written by a fantastic teacher. We hope to see you there!
